Early Sunday Morning!

This is a recent blog that was posted by a Dear Pastor friend of mine out in Washington: 

No… This is not a picture at my house. It’s 7am and the sun still is in hiding. But this is quite similar!

Sunday morning is not some laid back restful place. At least not for me. It is getting up and moving early so as to put some final polish on my morning sermon. It’s making sure I have everything ready to take with me (…and still I forget things…).

Finally, when is all said and done, I will hopefully have a few moments to self and will enjoy the start of the day.

Most may not understand this, but Sunday is often a day of “work” for me. It’s not a day off mentality. It’s also not what I live for as a pastor. Sunday is often the culmination of all the “stuff” of the prior week, more than it is a kick off for the week yet to arrive. Seldom is this day spent in idle contemplation, or relaxation. It is a work day… And I am totally okay with it. Since my wife works a normal job this often means Saturday is our only time off together for the entire week. We may get an evening together, here or there, but with OT, phone calls, school, etc. we are often busy with our respective duties.

Sunday follows Saturday. Saturday ends out the week. God said we would work 6 days and have 1 day of rest and since Sunday is a work day, then Saturday is our day of rest. I treasure Saturdays off – a few tasks to do around the house, a nice dinner with the kids to celebrate this, that and the other, and some pure lazy time if I need it.

But I love Sunday morning. I get up between 4-4:30 and begin a morning routine that is unique to me for my day. No one else needs to follow it – this is simply who I am.

Still, I love Sunday morning. The house is very quiet. The sun is still down. Nothing is moving. It’s really my time to enjoy.

 Yes! I truly enjoy my Sundays also, and yes, many times as I am preaching out, it’s a work day for me too! …But I “enjoy” it so very much. I started to say I love it, But, a wise ole friend of mine told me one time, never love anything that can’t love you back, so, I try to live by that.

But for me, the anticipation of what that day will bring is so exciting, getting up early has been one of my favorite things for a long time. Like you said, quite, peaceful, no phones ringing, no one knocking at the door just a great time to make a pot of coffee, read the bible, quite time with the Lord, and my list could go on.

Like I said, let’s just say, ” I enjoy early mornings, …and it does not have to be a Sunday, but that day has a specialty of it’s own. ;-)

Are YOU on the right track?

               Now what?                                        Careful! that light, may be a Train!

Decisions, decisions, which way do I go, or what do I do?

There's a lot to be said about being on course or on (track) as with my thought here today.

There are so many things that have the tendencies to DETOUR us in other directions, if we are not cautious!

We live in what many call a religious world, we certainly know there are many false directions that people are being led to today.

One may even think, as long as I'm doing something I'm okay. People rock their conscience asleep with just doing something as though that makes it right or even good.

This is what we find in the Word of God:
Proverbs 16:25  There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

So according to the scripture we can immediately see that one must be sure that the direction they are traveling is right. Yes! checks and balances, do we weigh out what we are doing or the direction that we are going by the Word of God?

Let God direct your steps, He will always lead you right:
Psa 37:23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Seek God's word for your direction!

Time waits for no one!

2013 already here and the very 1st. day is already gone!
Think about it, how do we spend our time? what do we do with it? Do we squander it, never really getting the things done that we said or thought we would?

We are locked into an element of time in this life and it just keeps marching on, regardless of what we do with it, how we use it, good or bad.

Think of this thought, throughout the Holy Bible, the infallible Word of God, it speaks of time, and over in the Book of Revelation, it talks about, when time shall be no more, just think, no more waiting, no more time cards, or punching the clock, no deadlines, and just simply NO TIME, ONLY ETERNITY!!

Here's an oxymoron for ya, "I can't wait for that time to come".

I want to be a good steward of the time God has given to me and I want to use it wisely here in this life and get all of the benefits that I can get out of the time I use here, later, it just won't matter anymore.

Use the time God has given you to be a blessing to somebody and it will be TIME well spent!

Without Earthly Reward!

Throughout many times in life there opportunities that each of us have to be a help to someone in their time of need.

Sad to say, there are times when a person doesn't mind helping someone if there is a possibility of some sort of gain in the matter or the deed.

You've seen it, you know, where somebody does something because others are watching or because there is some benefit to be had for doing something good for someone.

The bible even speaks on this matter, that when you do something, if you really want to be rewarded in a spiritual way, do it as unto the Lord and NOT for the show.

Now I'm sure there isn't anybody that would read this that has ever done anything like this, but as they say, "Just Saying".

I have found in life that if you really want to receive a blessing, then be a blessing to someone, keep in mind this doesn't have to always be some great task, it could be as simple as a helping hand, a kind word, or perhaps, even something as simple as a smile.

Think about this, If you ever want to really test the waters on what I am talking about here today, perhaps you may want to try this.

Be a help to somebody that you absolutely know without a doubt, that no matter what you would do for them big or small, they could NEVER repay you, keep in mind this doesn't mean that in doing so it comes without reward, but at least not from the individual that you are helping. 

Wouldn't it be better to let God bless us than to have the praises of men? and instead of looking to see where you and I can get a blessing, let's be a blessing, and you know what? We won't be able to keep from be blessed!

May the very BEST that God has to offer be ours, as we do what he would have us to do.

Sometimes wisdom must come forth!

This was a wisdom tooth that had a crown on it for the past 20 years or so. On the bottom, all the way in the back, over the years, off and on it has given me trouble. Recently, it became abscessed and yes, it had to be removed. 

I went this morning and had it pulled, was it painless? "Not at all!" this thing has three roots, first some medicine for about a week to calm the tooth down and get rid of the infection, then after 5 shots and some encouragement from the dentist and his assistant, Oh! and a lot of pulling!! out came the tooth.

The Bible teaches us a lot about wisdom, no not teeth! But the wisdom that God has given to us to do the right thing, sometimes it can be painful but the end result can be very healthy.

Somethings that we leave alone and not deal with can prove to cause us much discomfort and even sickness.

Perhaps there is something that you have put off doing for some time, you just keep letting it go, guess what? it can eventually become very painful if not taken care of.

Let the wisdom that God has given you come forth, let me tell you, it don't always have to be like pulling teeth.

Remembering Our Soldiers Across America!

We celebrate our Veterans today (both men and women) and what they have done to serve us and protect us from those that would try to do us harm. 

Many of them have made sacrifices that most minds can not even comprehend, they have suffered losses untold, friends and comrades, family, limbs and many other physical things as well, many even gave their lives.

Will we be so kind to them today as to remember their gift to us, the gift so many times we take for granted (Freedom) remember! Freedom isn't FREE!

Just because there are those of us that did not pay the price it does not mean it came without cost. 

We send out our Love and Appreciation to every American Soldier and we want to thank you for your Service to our Great Country that God had Blessed.

A NEW DAY!

Nov. 7th. 2012

If I did NOT know what I know in my heart for certain, then perhaps I would be disappointed concerning the outcome of this election. If you would like to know what this actually means, please keep reading, it simply means that the Bride of Christ will be going to meet him just a little bit sooner than we thought.

I am still a Proud American and thankful that I have been blessed to live in a place that the hand of God has been on for so long and thankful that " I choose to be a Christian ".

Tis so Sweet to TRUST in Jesus! and YES! I take him at his WORD.

Scriptures To Pray For Our National Election  

It is critical that Christians pray for the coming presidential election.  There is amazing power in  united prayer.  Pray with others whenever possible. The power of prayer can overcome any obstacle or ungodly influence and,indeed, do great things!

                       

                        II Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear 
                             from heaven, and will forgive their sin, will heal their land.  

                        Acts 17:30 - Pray for repentance for yourself and for our nation.

                        Psalm 32:6-7 - Pray that Christians will be motivated to pray faithfully for this election and that the Lord would deliver us from the wrong leaders.

                        Proverbs 16:13 - Pray that our nation will listen to the truth and not be led astray.

                        Psalm 125 - Pray that those who trust in the Lord will not be shaken.

                        Psalm 86:14-17 - Pray that the Lord would defeat those who have no regard for Him in this election.

                        II Kings 13:16 - Pray that the Lord would put His hands on the man of His choice  for president (and his team) and guide them in this election.

                        Daniel 2:20-22 - the Bible tells us that God sets up kings and God deposes kings.   God is in control. 

                        Luke 12:54-57 – Pray that God's man and our nation will be discerning and do what is right.

                        Psalm 16:7-8 - Pray that the Lord would give wise counsel and guidance to His choice for president in this campaign.

                        Proverbs 1:5-6 - Pray that God's man will listen with discernment, add to his knowledge,and receive wise counsel in this campaign.

                        John 16:33 - Pray that the man of God's choice would be given wisdom and ability from the Lord to overcome any obstacle or difficulty during this campaign.

                        Philippians 4:13 - Pray that the Lord's choice for President will have special strength and unusual ability from God.

                        Psalm 18:32-36 - Pray that the Lord would arm the man of His choice with strength;would guide him in battle (this election); and would sustain him and give him             
                           victory.

                        Hebrews 11:32-34 – Pray that God's man could, through faith, persevere and maintain his courage throughout this election.

                        2 Corinthians 12:9 – Pray that the Lord would empower and enable his man in any area of weakness.

                        Habakkuk 1:5 and 3:2 - Pray that the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze us  and give His servant victory. 

                        Please print out this prayer guide and pray daily until the election.

Well! it's that TIME again, to turn the clocks back and we can certainly enjoy a few of the benefits of doing so. What are they?

1. 1 extra hour of sleep
2. earlier sunrise
3. a decrease in heart attacks
4. a decrease in car accidents  ...just to name a few.

You may even come up with a few of your own.

Summer is behind us and now we have the wonderful seasons of fall and winter to enjoy.

Make the best of it, remember! it's only a season.

Truth is always going to stand, even in the midst of a world or society that says it really doesn't matter.One of the most misquoted verses in the Bible is John 8:32 

So many quote it like this  "the truth will set (make) you free". 

...SORRY! that's NOT what it says,

Take a closer look at the verse:

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 

You see, just truth alone is not good enough, we must know the TRUTH and we must 

live it, that's where the real victory comes from.

Road Side Ministry

Just today while running some errands near our home here in West Tennessee, I happened to see a road side vegetable stand, having a little time on my hands thought I would stop by and pay a visit to the ole gentleman and his wife who were sitting there tending to their vegetable stand, thinking that there may be a few items that I could take home. 

We visited for a while and exchanged a few stories of things that were going on in our lives, we were really  just having a good little friendly talk. Every now and then, trucks would go by and make so much road noise that during those times it was really hard to hear what was being said by either one of us so we had to talk loud.

I looked around at the tomatoes, onions, purple hull peas and some of the other items that he had for sale and really couldn't decide what I even wanted, if anything!

So while we were talking about the goodness of the Lord, the thought entered my mind to sing for them one of Granddaddy's old songs that he wrote many many years ago, I knew that I had to do a little timing of the traffic so the noise level wouldn't be so loud that they would not be able to hear me.

As I looked down the road, here was my chance, nothing coming either way, so I started singing, " I dreamed I climbed to heaven on that ladder of Gold, my dream was like the bible foretold..." when I got through singing both of them including myself, had big ole tears streaming down our faces and they were so appreciative of me for taking the time to visit with them and especially sing.

Now perhaps many of you reading this today can remember the old saying " Singing for your Supper " well! when I left he put two beautiful cantaloupes in a bag and said here son, we want to give these to you.

You see what just a few minutes can do in a persons life? At a road side vegetable stand, I made a difference and perhaps changed the course of their day, it certainly changed mine.

Before I left, I invited them to church, who knows, they just might want to hear some more of that good old gospel singing and they can sure hear it where I go, and of course, we'll put the WORD in there too!

Today would have been Mom & Dad's 63rd. Anniversary if Mother would have lived.

People put in your path of life!

 

The last full week of January 2012 I had just finished preaching a series of services in Kentucky, just before these services we stopped to spend the night with a dear ole Minister friend of mine and his sweet wife over in the Louisville area.



These folks have labored in the Lord for the last 50 plus years and they are very close friends of ours and have been for the last 30 some odd years, we have preached lots of revivals for them in the past and we just wanted to take the time to be with them for a little while.



After leaving them and going on to the churches that I was going to be ministering in over the weekend, and by the way, we had wonderful church services and a mighty move of God.



My son Josh was with me, the pastor we had been preaching for put us up in a very nice hotel, it was early Monday morning, we had a pretty restful night in our very comfortable hotel room, we were going to head back home to West Tennessee and my son convinced me to take a detour on our way back and drive to Gatlinburg and just spend the day and make some memories.



So we were on our way home via Gatlinburg. As we were driving down I 75 south in Kentucky toward Tennessee, Josh and I were just having a great time laughing and talking and carrying on about so many different things. I showed Josh the exit on the route towards a city where his Mother and I started a church almost 30 yrs ago, that of course was a few years before Josh was even born.



I showed Josh an old restaurant where the grey hound buses use to stop; it was that restaurant that brought back some memories to me. It was where I took my brother Dennis to catch the bus back to Chicago after he had come down and spent several days with us, we had such an enjoyable time, he still talks about the meals my wife Bobbi cooked for him when he was there visiting us.



We were on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. When we got off of the interstate, we pulled into a service station to get gas and then back on the road to our destination for the day. As we were driving down the main highway 66 toward Gatlinburg, the traffic was getting a little heavy, stop and go along the way.



As we were traveling down this road I noticed a Brand New Chevy SSR Fire Engine Red along my side, I looked over at the gentleman driving it and I gave him the thumbs up.



He smiled and waved at me, when we came to the next traffic light we just so happen to stop next to one another and he rolled his window down, so I rolled mine down to engage in a little friendly chit chat. I told him he had a very sharp vehicle and he proceeded to ask me where we were from.

I told him we were from West Tennessee and we were just coming from a preaching engagement up in Kentucky and decided to spend the day here before going on home. The light turned green and we said “Nice talking to ya, have a great day!”.



Low and behold at the next light we end up side by side again, we rolled the windows down again, he asked me what kind of a preacher I was, I told him a Pentecostal! Just before the light turned green, he said, follow me, I want to buy you fellow’s lunch at my restaurant and tell you a “Pentecostal Story”. I said Okay! We’ll follow you, and we did for about another 3 miles.



He pulls into a very nice, super clean restaurant and we pull along side him and park and he invites me and Josh in. We go in and I immediately let him know that we were going to pass on the lunch, as we did not want to take advantage of his kindness.



We then sit at a table and he says, won’t you at least have something to drink, and so we did. While we are sitting there exchanging some small talk, he then reminds me of the “Pentecostal Story” he wants to tell me.



He proceeds to tell me this story about a man that worked for him at one time and begins to describe him to me and tell me a little about this individual and all of a sudden I stop him and tell him Sir! You’re never going to believe this, but the man you are talking about is a man that I personally know and as a matter a fact the Church that I was preaching at just the day before in Kentucky was a Church that he actually started several years ago.



What are the chances that I would drive up along side of a perfect stranger and have this kind of a conversation with him? Needless to say this man will some how become a life long friend of mine. Who knows what God will do in the future? Isn’t it something how people are sometimes put right in your path? Just waiting to see what God will do next.

In Loving Memory of My Dear Sweet Mother

June 8th. 1932 - Oct 24th. 2011

It's only been two days Mom since you left and it seems like a life time.

I'll never forget that beautiful sweet smile and little chuckle you always had.

I know we always had good times together and you were very caring for me as well as others.

You brought joy to me so many times, but that was just you Mom.

That was your trade mark, other's first, you last.

You have left behind a legacy of memories that will live on in your absence.

Thank you for all of the things that you instilled in me over the many years,

I'll never forget them as long as I shall live.

Thank you for being such a sweet friend to my loving

wife Bobbi, she also loved you dearly as you did her.

You taught her how to cook, quilt, and the list could go on and on, you were a treasure

to us while we had you here on earth. I also want to thank you for being my very own

PRAYER WARRIOR for so many years, I know your prayers helped me through some

very difficult times, and even now I glean from them. It's so hard to let you go,

but I carry you in my heart and my memory everyday and will continue to be thankful for

the blessing of having a Mother like you all these years.

We're living in the day of spiritual battle, but the weapons of our warfare are NOT carnal, but MIGHTY through God. Stay Battle Ready, the fight is on!

Turn your failure around and REPENT!

All of the feelings that are associated with FAILURE are all able to be overwhelmed by one act of;     REPENTANCE!

The ability to start over fresh, from ground zero if you will, but it takes being godly sorry, heart felt, broken, and a willingness to do things God's way and not ours.

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

He knows my path!

Do you ever feel like life gets a little overwhelming at times? Of course you do, we all do! But be of good cheer my friend, God has NOT forsaken us, he is on our side; in fact, he goes before us, one writer said it like this, “He knows the way that I take”.

• Job 23:10

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Get up from that place of despair! Lift up your head and REJOICE!

Remember! Yesterday's Battles are today's Victories! Now we move on.

No time for recreation, the battle is on!

Did you ever go through a place in your life where you just feel as though everything you do you just have this horrific spirit of hindrances that try to overwhelm you? Well! welcome to the forefront of the battle.

We're in a real day to day battle, that is IF you have a desire to do something for the Kingdom of God, those that just meander through life as though nothing is going on around them, you know, those carefree types! most of the time they wouldn't even have a clue as to what Spiritual opposition even was, the enemy already has them wrapped up in self, pride and sometimes even stinking arrogance. Stay humble before God, He'll lift you up in due season my friend.

There are many different kinds of battles that we face in life; the key is to NOT fall prey to any of them regardless of how you feel. Continue to be steadfast, and by all means, be prayerful.

I speak from experience, you must never allow the spirit of defeat to overtake you, no matter how you feel. PRESS!!

We have it on good authority: 1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The enemy wants to win! But don't you? Just think, as we trust the almighty GOD he leads us, guides us and protects us, as long as we follow after him and seek to do his good pleasure.

My dear friend, HANG ON! Pray and seek God's face daily and learn to walk in the realm of the spirit, the enemy doesn't even want you to know that there is a safe place for you and I to walk in, and that is where we gain the strength to continue on a little further.

Press toward the MARK! The mark is the focal point of where you are headed, never take your eyes off of that place, put the blinders on, you will be VICTORIOUS!

Many hard times may will try to beset you, but you can and will be victorious if you stay the course.

Let's pray for one another! You can make it, I am a living example that it can be done, I'm doing it now!!

Blessings to you in the NAME that is above all Names!! The Name of JESUS!! Speak it as though you believe it!

Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Is God really able? ...Have you not been reading?

If God did this for the Children of Isreal, what would he do for those who are true to him?
I can tell you that God will take care of his own, he's doing it for me, and for this I am so thankful.

Astounding Facts about the Exodus


How many people were there?

According to Numbers 1:45-46 there were more than 600,000 fighting men. Add to that an equal number of women, plus an average of four children per family (remember, the Egyptians were afraid because the Israelites were multiplying so rapidly, Exodus 1:7-10), and the population looks like this:

Men ................ 600,000
Woman ........... 600,000
Children .......... 2,400,000
Total ............... 3,600,000

How long a column would that make?
Marching 50 abreast, it would stretch for 40 miles into the desert. At a modest pace of 2 ½ miles per hour, the people would require more than 16 hours to pass by the same point.

How much food and water did the people require?
Just to provide the minimum ration of food and water for the people (not including provisions for their animals) would take the equivalent of 30 boxcars of food and 300 tank cars of water every day of their 40 year journey.

The Death, Burial and the Resurrection can still be experienced in your life,

And if you want to make it to heaven, you need to have that experience today!

Death = Repentance, being godly sorry for your sins

Burial = Baptized in Water according to Acts 2:38

Resurrection = To arise, walking in the newness of life, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues as God gives the utterance.

Ecc 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Ecc 3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; Ecc 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; Ecc 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; Ecc 3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; Ecc 3:6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; Ecc 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; Ecc 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Time is a very interesting thing, once it's gone you can't get it back.
Don't waste it, cherish it, use it for the good of everything you can.
As I type this, I am reminded, there was a time... you can fill in your own blank.

There are lots of folks in this world, that brag about how well they do things, how they are the experts in a given area, not to take away from their knowledge and understanding, because there are those who have taken the time to master their craft.

When it comes to areas of life and various problems that we deal with on a daily basis, there is nobody that can come close to what Jesus is capable of doing.

The fact is, Jesus can do more for you in five minutes than some of these folks can do in 5 months or 5 years for that matter.

If you’re struggling today, turn it all over to Jesus and let him help you with your battles, I know that he’ll make a way for you where there seems to be no way!

It comes at NO surprise!

We live in an hour of great struggles on every front, the battles that families go through with children, spouses that want to do their own thing, as they say. These are troublesome times, but God IS in control!

There is NOT one thing, that comes against us, that does not cross the path of God, NOTHING takes God by surprise, he is never blind sided by our circumstances.

...if that be the case, and we know that it is, why should we fret? Let's just allow God to have his perfect way in our lives, and be the witness that we need to be, in every situation that comes our way.

2Ti 3:5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

These words describe the way in which people live their lives, there is nothing else needed to bare this out, the Word exposes the ungodly, so dare to be DIFFERENT!

Think about this, God is NOT like people, he doesn't change with every little whim that comes along. He is always the same!

You can put your trust in him and know that he means what he says in his word.

We can count on his word being a strength to us in every situation of our life.

Power in the prayers that we pray.

• Jam 5:16   Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

We have places in our lives where we fall short in different areas of life, this is NOT the end of the world, but an opportunity to do better.

We are also commanded to pray for one another that we may receive the healings that we need within ourselves.

Prepare your list of those that you are praying for and pray for them daily, and please put me on the list as well, remember! there is Power in the prayers that you pray and NO power in the prayers that you don't.

Seek the Lord!

• Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

There is something so special about seeking after the Lord, finding him during those quiet times, not just during the turmoil of life.

Being thankful to him, for he is an ever present help.

Be sure to find some time to seek after the Lord today and don't miss the opportunity for a blessing.

Strength from God.

Psa 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. 

Strength from God is like no other! He is able to care for us and protect us from everything that would try to harm us in any way.

Where is your confidence today? Hopefully NOT in this world, it will let you down, but God will lift you up!
